Today is a bank holiday in Germany!

It’s the Day of German Unity, the national holiday, which commemorates the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990. In actual fact the Berlin Wall fell in November 1989, but the official (very complex) political process took almost a year. It is celebrated mainly in Berlin, with street parties, cultural events, and of course with fireworks.
