Word of the Day

I have posted about favourite words before. So this time one of my least favourite… I find it is overused, often in the wrong context.

aesthetic (adjective)

  • nice to look at, pleasing to the eye
  • relating to beauty  (used to describe works of art)

– The architects are planning some aesthetic improvements to the outside of the building.

– The design is not particularly aesthetic, but at least it is practical.

Now, I could say that this rose is, quite simply, beautiful.

Or I could say this rose possesses an aesthetic beauty.

Which do you prefer?
