Advent 2012

Advent is a special time in Germany when many people – even those with no particular tie towards religion – wish friends, family and neighbours time for “Besinnung”… contemplation, reflection, awareness.

So for the first week of Advent I wish you all:

Β A moment to stare out of the window and daydream…

The answer to a question…

A deep breath of fresh air…

Time to bake your favourite cookies!

    • I have to confess that this photo is from last year’s baking session. This year’s baking is underway, but I haven’t finished yet! (Recipe coming up soon though!) πŸ˜‰

  1. To daydream . . . to answer a question or perhaps many . . . to prepare for a year with a different number . . . to somehow hope that the bad will go and the blessed enter . . .

  2. Dear Cathy, thanks for your wonderful Advent wishes! All these good wishes to you too…

Please let me add some thoughts on “the answer to a question”! Life teaches us that sometimes there are questions to which you canΒ΄t find any answer. My special heartfelt wish to all those people
living in misfortune and sorrow is the wish for having so much strength of mind to accept things that
cannot be helped and so to find calmness.
A happy Sunday to you and enjoy your baking cookies…

  3. having lived in Munich many years ago, this brings back memories of the tradition of Advent in Germany, decorating the house, candles, and making those cookies… πŸ™‚

    • All the lights outside people’s houses went up this week, and the markets have opened. πŸ˜€ I love that there is still a real “beginning” to the Christmas season.

  4. When I took that breath of fresh air – I could only smell the deep buttery fragrance of warm cookies baking in the oven! πŸ˜€ That’s what happens while staring at those platters of cookies! Loveliness. Sharon

  5. I like the idea of ‘Besinnung’ Cathy – time to pause and reflect. Sadly Christmas here has become way to commercialised – the true spirit has been lost or so it seems 😦 Apart from it being the start of advent December 1st is always a special day for us as we got married on the date πŸ™‚

    • I really notice the difference between the UK and Germany, and it is sad that the commercial side has taken over. I hope it won’t get too bad here in future years. (Happy Anniversary for yesterday!)

  6. Happy Advent! This is new for me, I enjoyed learning about it. Your baked good look delicious.
