Tuesday at Two (August 20th)

Cool and grey, but a very happy garden after lots of rain yesterday. The forecast is good, with temperatures in the upper 20s by the end of the week. August has been such a lovely month this year, after the brain-numbing heat of July.

(In the foreground you may see I have finally found some attractive plant supports for the asters and achillea)

I’ve collected a few images of the garden over the last couple of weeks too. It’s been such gorgeous weather for taking pictures – take a look!

Has August been good to you too?

Have a lovely week everyone! 😀

  1. We seemed to have exchanged months! Jult was wet (for here) and August has been hot and dry, not good for gardening or the gardener! You some very pretty blooms Cathy

  2. Spotted the nice plant supports right away, a feature in itself really. Lovely pics and yes, August has been splendid up to now. Have a good week too, Cathy 🙂

  3. Some very nice and attractive blooms Cathy. You have such an appealing backdrop for everything you plant! Makes a person want to make a cup of tea and just sit and look out….with you of course!

  4. Glad the weather has been nice for you. Spotted the cool HummingbirdHawkMoth in your gallery. Your photos are so crisp and clear, really enjoyed browsing them.

    • Thank you Susie. It’s been fun wandering round the garden in the sunshine with the dogs in tow. Our big dog is too old for walks now, so the garden is our little world. 😀

    • The anemones are in a “wild” bit of the garden and get mown back if they spread too far! They are certainly very robust and seem to thrive regardless of the weather. I’ve tried them in my rockery, but they don’t like it there… I think they prefer being neglected!

  5. Glad to hear that the rain has worked its magic Cathy. Your plant supports are most attractive. Here August has been a bit up and down but a definite improvement on the same month last year!

    • Thank you Anna – we had too much heat in August last year, so I’m very happy with the temperatures in the 20s. I was in the UK at the end of August last year and we had some lovely weather – in between the showers! 😀

    • I set the table for proper “tea” today, as a friend visited, and it was a little chilly in the shade – pleasant to feel cool again! Thanks for your lovely comment Donna. 😀

  6. Lovely images of your summer garden, Cathy! I especially like Nigella and Perovskia. Perovskia is resistant against heat and drought, isn´t it?

    • Thank you Elisabeth. The Perovskia is very heat and drought resistant, but flowers better if not too hot. It also tends to droop, which is fine over the rockery. Maybe a plant for the south-facing back of your garden? The bees absolutely adore it!

  7. August has been mixed, mild but very dry. I LOVE that picture of the moth – we have a similar one called a hummingbird moth. I used to see it more frequently but not this year.

    • We saw lots of different ones last year, but only this type this summer – I think the cool spring had an effect on them. I could watch them for hours!

  8. What lovely photos! Have you taken a close-up of the plant supporters? They look really nice from afar, but also having that problem of not nice supporters, I’d love to see what you found! thanks, Dana
