Today has finally brought us some fabulous autumn sunshine and warmth after a chilly week or two.
And a large bowlful of peaches from my neighbour!
They are quite small, with imperfect skins, and are not all that sweet. I have no idea what to do with them all! Any suggestions?
Happy Autumn!
😀
Looks like a gorgeous day where you live. Beautiful photo of the peaches too. What a nice gift from your neighbor. Hope you find a way to enjoy them–my favorite way is simply to slice and sprinkle with a bit of sugar, but that looks like a lot of peaches you have there.
It’s a wonderful day – so calm and a deep blue sky! 😀
Similar peaches were given to us. I guess we´ll cook them for having “Kompott”. Wonderful sunshine :)!
That’s probably what I’ll do with these peaches too! 😉
The peaches might be good in a chutney, better than if they were too sweet.
A lovely idea – I love peach chutney, but I think I’m the only person I know in Germany who eats any kind of chutney! Perhaps just a little just for me…. 😉
If you find a good recipe let me know as sometimes I have too many peaches or they are very cheap, sold by the tray, and I like chutney!
Peaches are really easy to freeze. You don’t even have to peel them. My friend who has a commercial orchard just slices them up with a bit of sugar and lemon juice and bags them up in a freezer bag. So that’s what I do. You have to use them pretty soon after defrosting because they might turn a little brown.
That’s a great tip Pat – thanks! I may have to freeze some if I can’t process them all quickly enough.
Peach pie! Peach cobbler! They are good in these mixed with apples or berries!
Now peach cobbler does sound like a great idea. Thanks Jason! I’ve never had so many peaches before and was a little dumbfounded at first, but the ideas are flowing now!
Dear Cathy, just eat and enjoy them, very simple 🙂 Would be a pity to cook them. Make a peach fool, yummie
Thanks Annette. Of course some will be eaten as they are… with a little sugar and maybe some cream… 😉
Bottle them in a light syrup, then use for puddings. Or would they make good jam?
Our apple tree excelled itself this year, though most of the fruit had iffy bits, so I spent most of yesterday peeling and chopping to prep most of them for the freezer. Thought of you when I made some apple sauce! X
Ooh, I love it when I get a comment from you Susan! 😀 xx I didn’t know you had an apple tree. Ours had to be cut out and chopped up too, and the peaches too. Time consuming but good to know they are organic! They are slightly bitter but I made a little compote to test out and my Man of Many Talents loved it and requested jam and compote… I might freeze some if there are any left, and I think I’d like a cobbler as I’ve never had peach cobbler before. Hugs! xx
A beautiful day by the look of your photo, and a lovely gift from your neighbour. I made this jam last year – http://www.lavenderandlovage.com/2012/07/a-provence-summer-preserve-french-set-apricot-and-lavender-jam-confiture.html It was delicious with a really nice soft set – could you substitute peaches for apricots do you think?
That sounds lovely Sarah… I think jam it will have to be, but I’m not sure if I have any lavender flowers left so will add some lemon verbena perhaps. They are a little bitter, but I made some compote with a few to see what they taste like cooked and it went down very well!
A similar day here Cathy although it took until this afternoon for the sun to really come out. When it did there were butterflies and bees on the wing and it was most pleasant 🙂
The bees were humming around the sedums here too. The autumn stillness was profound… the birds are very quiet at the moment. Love this kind of weather!
No problem: > to Ireland! Conor Bofin’s ‘One Man’s Meat’ yesterday ~ well, I know he said apricots but it would be great either way and in Bavaria you DO love a pork roast 🙂 !
Well, some might, but we are VEGETARIANS! LOL!
Oops!!! I DO sometimes manage, don’t I 🙂 ?
No worries Eha! 😉
Those peaches are a nice gift. I made peach butter a couple of years ago. It is so good. I’m on my last jar now – should have made more this year! So, that’s what I would do with them!
You made that last well then! We have to ration the jam out to make it last in this household… I have already made some peach jam and it turned out very well. Thanks for your comment Holley!
Peach pie, peach cobbler, peach crisp….fresh peaches are like a basket of gold for me.
We had peach cobbler yesterday, but they are not very sweet so I was a little disappointed!
I would cut them up add to chopped tomatoes, cilantro, hot peppers and make a yummy peach salsa 🙂 it is diet of course 🙂
I forgot onions too 🙂 salsa with peaches is my favorite!
Sounds like a delicious combination! Thanks Eunice! 🙂
🙂 sweet and hot 🙂
I wish we were having the same sunny spell, very cold and wet here. Gosia made some peach and quince jam the other day with a very similar looking bowl of gifted fruit. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve seen many mouthfuls devoured on toast, so it must be good 🙂
I made jam too Eddy – really tasty! 😉 Hope you get some of this autumn sunshine too.
Those peaches are amaaaazing! 🙂 I am enjoying catching up on your blog! It’s making me hungry!
Thanks for all your lovely comments Anna! 😀 Hope you can also find time to do a bit of baking this autumn.
