Tuesday View (26th November)

We had a lovely frost at last!

Today’s view at 10am…

The shady parts of the garden have looked precious all day, with temperatures hovering around freezing point, and a few flakes of snow in the air. The Persicaria looked beautiful first thing, but it will probably flop completely after this cold snap. Its leaves have been fabulous since July.

And the last rose buds were enveloped in magnificent crystals…

Have you had any pretty frosts yet?

  1. A really lovely frost – the rosebuds look beautiful with their coat of ice crystals. We don’t seem to be getting much frost just yet, but it’s only a matter of time…

    • I had been looking forward to a good frost, and it didn’t disappoint! It just seems right at this time of year, with our Advent markets opening this weekend.

  2. A strong N wind is blowing so it feels freezing and this morning the solar panel did have frost on it but it didn’t seem to affeact any of the plants. All this week will be cold! The rose bud is very beutiful.

    • Thank you Christina. Same here – chilly forecasts, with north winds and possible snow. Perfect for the Christmas markets opening this week, as the mulled wine sells better in cold weather! πŸ˜‰

    • Hi Debra. I’m surprised how much I like this view too… taken from an angle I don’t usually look at!
The frost stayed around all day today too – so lovely!

  3. Love this new view and the frosty details you’ve highlighted. The rose and Persicaria are colorful under the frost. We had a couple of frosts but I haven’t had time to get in time to see the garden under the spell–it warmed up quickly.

    • It’s early days yet, so I’m sure there’ll be some more frosts for us all. Just like with the first snow, the first real frost always tempts me out with the camera! πŸ˜‰

  4. I absolutely love the new view, Cathy, and wow, how Jack Frost turns the garden into a magical, still colourful world. The image of the first rose is stunning!

  5. How lovely. No frosts here yet, though it dipped down to 2.5C in the greenhouse the other night. Apparently it is about to get colder again, but yesterday I didn’t even need a coat outside!! Is the grass in the back lh corner a calamagrostis?

    • Hi Janet. We even had a dusting of snow for a couple of days – very pretty, but gone already. The grass is a Miscanthus sinensis, destined to be cut in the next few days. It didn’t flower this year – probably too dry in the summer.

    • They would look so pretty on a Christmas cake – I bet the frost will have finished them off for winter now. Hey, in less than a month the days will start getting longer again… πŸ˜€
