Tree Following: April 2015

This year I am joining Lucy at Loose and Leafy in following a tree, and I am posting monthly about my Field Maple (Acer campestre) which stands at the bottom of our garden.

Look up, look up, at any tree!

There is so much for eyes to see:

Twigs, catkins, blossoms; and the blue

Of sky, most lovely, peeping through…

Despite some really warm days the leaf buds are only just showing signs of development. I can’t wait to see the leaves unfurl.

The other members of the Acer family in my garden are just as far on or even a little further ahead; the Acer pseudoplatanus (Sycamore)…

Bergahorn

the Acer tataricum (Amur Maple)…

Feuerahorn

and the Acer palmatum (Japanese Maple)…

Β Between the 7th and 14th of each month you can link in with your tree at Loose and Leafy. Dozens of people from all over are taking part, so why not join in!

Are you seeing any leaf growth yet?

  1. Sometimes the anticipation is just as exciting as when the leaves open Cathy πŸ™‚ Here the leaves are evident on some trees but many others have still to unfurl. I’m in Cumbria this morning where it’s further behind than at home. I look forward to meeting your tree again next month.

    • Thank you Anna. I should think my tree will be ‘dressed’ by the time you meet it again…. hope so anyway! Everything is turning green here too now – just the last few days have made a difference.

  2. It’s seems that our neighborhood trees greened almost overnight. A few weeks ago everything was brown and grey and bare, today everything has filled in! Your tree is so very symmetrical. It will look beautiful when totally filled in.

  3. Cathy, thank you for your tree update. We too have an Acer, but I’ll have to look up the specifics. Ours leafed out quickly this year in what seemed like an overnight sensation. They’re extraordinary trees, aren’t they?

    • We have many different acers here and I am hopefully going to be able to recognize them and learn some more names by the end of this tree watching year! Everything is now a lot greener than last week – it certainly does seem to happen overnight doesn’t it! Have a great week Alys!
