Happy New Year to all of you!
I am joining the now famous Monday meme hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden: A single Amaryllis flower (Lemon Star) in a cocktail glass seemed to capture the spirit of New Year yesterday. The accompanying mini Sekt bottle is empty…. 😉
I hope you had a lovely break over Christmas and are refreshed and ready to start the new gardening year with optimism. It is still frozen here, with a light sprinkling of snow, so my garden will be slumbering a little longer.
Have a good week and a good start to the new year 2017!
Such a perfectly elegant combination, Cathy – thanks for sharing, and best wishes for 2017
Thanks Cathy!
Your choice of accompanying props is perfect for the stunningly beautiful Amaryllis. Snow is forecast here next week too. It seems the cold winter that was forecast in autumn is going to happen, we’ve already had a couple to weeks of below zero temperatures at night. Happy New Year Cathy.
It’s snowed quite a bit today and is apparently going down to about – 14°C for a couple of nights here, so we have got plenty of wood in for the fire! 😉
Festive and as Cathy says so elegant. Hope you’ve landed safely in 2017, Cathy, wishing you and your loved ones (2- and 4-legged) all the best 🙂
Thank you Annette, and the same to you too. 🙂
Lemon star is a bright way to lead off the new year. May your dreams and flowers grow strong throughout 2017.
That’s a lovely wish Susie. Thank you!
The loveliest way to start the New Year…I hope it will be a wonderful one for you and your family.
Thank you Karen! All the best to you too.
I’ve never heard of that Amaryllis. It’s lovely. And this meme is a great start to the new year!
Thank you! Hope your year has got off to a good start Linda!
Happy New Year, Cathy!
And to you Sheryl. Lots of flowery good wishes!
Hi Cathy, I found your blog at Rambling in the Garden!
Lovely presentation of the amaryllis bloom! Your photos capture the mood of the beginning New Year very well.
Best wishes for 2017, hope it will be a good garden year!
Warm regards,
Christina
Thanks Christina. I hope you also have a great year in your garden!
Happy New Year, Cathy. Like you, My garden will be snowbound for a while yet. I’m enjoying the break, however. 🙂
Yes, the break is good for the joints, although fetching wood and shovelling snow maybe not so! (We finally got our snow! 🙂 )
Happy New Year Cathy! No frost here, just rain! A week of rain will start California off to a wonderful New Year! Your Monday vase is always great inspiration for this haphazard gardener.
Thanks Deb. Good tonhear youbare getting some rain. Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing more of your delicious recipes soon! 🙂
Happy New Year Cathy! Yours is a perfect celebratory arrangement.
Thank you Peter, and Happy New Year!
Very creative, Cathy, and very lovely. Have a great new year.
Thank you John! 🙂
Lovely photo and beautiful flower Cathy. Christmas was very low key here this year with no Amaryllis! I’m already planning to make up for it next Christmas…
Thank you Gillian. I have made planting Amaryllis a firm tradition now, as bare windowsills in January after the decorations are put away are just so depressing!
Happy New Year to you, Cathy
… and a Happy New Year with a Vase on Monday!
Thanks Uta! Hope it is not too stormy near you. We have had snow and strong winds today.
The bloom in the cocktail glass is a beautiful way to toast the new year, Cathy. Best wishes for a healthy and happy new year!
Cheers Kris! 🙂
Happy New Year to you, too, Cathy. My mother-in-law gave me an amaryllis bulb while she was visiting over Christmas. It’s in a paper bag waiting for me to plant it, or whatever you do with it! I’ve not grown one before…
They are really easy, but just need a bit of time to get going. My tip is to keep it fairly cool and dry until it starts sprouting. Then I usually move mine to a warm windowsill and give them an occasional drink. Good luck, and Happy New Year Sam!
That photo says ‘Happy New Year’ better than any words.
🙂 Thanks Ricki!
What a lovely way to greet the new year – both the bottle and the flower! I always intend to grow some amaryllis but forget to buy the bulbs in the autumn – perhaps this year I will manage it. It is good to hear that you have some snow – my family have headed to the Alps in France today supposedly to ski, but there is no snow at all. I wish you all the best for 2017. xx
I actually noted on my calendar to order the bulbs in early September when they become available. I must explore other suppliers though as half of the ones I bought this year have shown no signs of life yet and they have been planted up for ages. I hope your family gets some of the snow we have had the past two days as it heads south. 🙂
I now want some Amaryllis for the holidays next year. Cheers and Happy New Year!
Cheers Amy, and have a good gardening year!
Happy New Year to you, too, Cathy!
Thanks Anca!
Happy New Year, Cathy. That’s a lovely vingnette set against the backdrop of your crisp white curtains. I’m glad you’ve finally had some snow. It’s still cold here, with rain expected over the next several days. All my succulents are tucked away under weather-proofing tents. 🙂
Such good news that you are getting rain again Alys! We have had quite a bit of snow now, and it is getting colder and colder…. Hope you had a great Christmas. Have a lovely year 2017! 🙂
Thank you, Cathy. I’m glad you got your snow. I imagine you have a few cold months ahead of you before things warm up again. Love to you and hope for a good year ahead.
It’s going down to -14°C tonight… nice and cosy indoors though, and tomorrow (the 6th) is a holiday here so I will stay in the warm! 🙂 xx
Oh, very nice. What’s the holiday? Do they celebrate the epiphany or is that just a coincidence? My husband was raised Catholic so he always gives us little gifts on January 6th. I wasn’t raised with a religious background, so it’s new to me.
Yes, it’s Epiphany. As Bavaria is mainly Catholic we get the day off. 🙂 In the UK we always take down Christmas stuff on this date, but here many people keep the tree or at least the lights up until Feb 2nd, another Catholic feast day (Candlemas). Can’t exactly remember what that is though! 😉 (We aren’t catholic either).
Oh that’s fascinating. It makes sense if you follow that the 12 days of Christmas end on the Epiphany. It’s funny how the western world has altered that in many ways. I guess it’s good that things are ever involving. 🙂
Another beautiful amaryllis bloom from your Lemon Star 🙂 I hope you’re having a lovely start to the new year, Cathy!
Thank you Amy! Our year has started off with some wintry weather after a brief thaw at Christmas and it is lovely to have some snow at last! 🙂
Happy New Year to you as well, Cathy!
Thanks Jason!
All the best for you, Cathy! Have a great successful 2017!
Thanks Cecilia. You too!
After a brief absence, Cathy, I just wanted to reach out to wish you a very Happy New Year. What a gorgeous amaryllis and I’ll be looking forward to rejoining you Monday with each additional lovely offering. 🙂
Hi Debra. A happy new year to you too, and hope to see you blogging regularly again soon as well. Take care!
Happiest of New Years Cathy.
Thanks Eunice, and to you too!
